A rare piece of American rail history is making its way through Steuben County. Union Pacific’s famed Big Boy No. 4014, the world’s largest operating steam locomotive, will travel through the Northeast as part of its historic Coast-to-Coast Tour honoring America’s 250th anniversary. The eastern leg of the tour brings Big Boy onto Norfolk Southern tracks for the first time, with more than 50 whistle-stops and display days across the country.

Don't miss it!

Big Boy No. 4014 is an unforgettable sight, but it is still traveling through an active rail corridor. Safety must come first.

• View only from public sidewalks, parks, parking areas, or approved viewing locations.

• Never stand on or near railroad tracks.

• Never walk along the railroad right-of-way.

• Never climb on rail equipment, bridges, signals, fences, or embankments.

• Stay behind all barriers and follow directions from law enforcement, railroad personnel, and event volunteers.

• Expect crowds and traffic delays.

• Keep children close and pets leashed.

• Drones are not permitted during Union Pacific Display Days, and Union Pacific states that drones must remain at least 25 feet laterally from the tracks when Big Boy is in motion.

• Check Union Pacific’s official schedule and live tracker before traveling.

Please remember:trains can move faster and more quietly than expected. The safest photo is always taken from a legal public location well away from the tracks.
